So, I have a 3DS XL with a severed ribbon cable and I wanted a few tips on how to repair it. I was basically wondering whether or not it was possible to purchase a new ribbon cable and replace it with the severed one, or just purchase a new top LCD screen all together.
Depends on which ribbon cable was severed in the device. If the cable does not have two easily removable ends that go into a connector almost always the part such as a screen that has the severed ribbon cable connected to it needs to be replaced.
