Symptoms: About a year ago, Sony Bravia 52" model KDL 52V5100 TV screen would occasionally be filled with vertical colored lines when turned on. Turning it off and then back on would usually make the lines go away and screen would be normal. For the past year the TV was completely normal. Recently the picture suddenly became bad but in a different way. The picture is very dark, and the left side of the screen is really blurry. Changing channels the picture is very slow to show the new channel in focus, like its in slow motion. Best Buy won’t repair it. If the above information points towards a particular failed component I’d like to know what that might be. TV is 8 years old and has a great picture. Hate to throw it away if its just a bad part.

Additional Info added 4/25/17: Finally removed the back of the TV. Components are: T-con board Power Supply Board Main Board (I/O) 2 Balancers (left and right, located along sides of TV) 2 Inverter Boards (left and right) Located service manual and did on-screen diagnostic. No error codes are listed. No blown capacitors are visible. Have not yet removed the covers over T-con board or Balancers. The left Balancer is covered by the Main board.

@rower this could be caused by a failed IC on the LCD driver board but also by a bad T-con board. You do want to unplug your set and remove the back, Then take a close look at all the boards and check for anything obviously damaged, i.e. leaking or domed capacitors etc. Post some images of your boards with your question so that we can see what you see.
