While replacing the display of an iPhone 11 things did no go well with the Y000 screws. This may have been an issue with the screwdriver that came with the display but ultimately all of the screws were so badly damaged that even a brand new Y000 screwdriver I bought could not get any purchase on them at all and I had to drill off the heads in order to remove the logic board cover and complete the display swap. Now I’m left with no screws with which to reinstall the logic board cover bracket and even if I did have screws the holes that they would go into are full of the drilled off shafts of the old screws. I’m considering just putting the phone back together without this cover bracket. From what I can tell it may have two purposes: 1) help the display cables to stay plugged in and 2) possibly shield the back of the display from heat or interference caused by the components on the logic board. So my ultimate question. Does anyone know if there is any serious detriment to leaving out the logic board cover bracket?
hello Mat, Yes, those provided screen screwdrivers are rubbish. Your thoughts are correct about the function of the bracket. You don’t need to install this. Unfortunately, you should take care of the leftovers of the screws you write about. These are metal elements and their presence near the motherboard and electricity is asking for trouble. Remove the motherboard first and use a brush or tiller to remove any drilling metal chips and remnants of screws.
For a proper repair, you should install this, otherwise they may pop out. You can buy replacement screws.
