I recently got this PC from my friend as a birthday present, it’s old but you can’t really pass up a free computer. Anyways, in either powerdesk 6 or Windows Explorer, when I right click on certain things (such as minecraft alpha), they’ll crash. I tried updating to the latest drivers for the GPU but that didn’t seem to help. Also, I could never get the minecraft client to run, so I attempted playing in the browser (Google Chrome), and that caused it to blue screen with some sort of driver error. After I rebooted, my google chrome preferences folder was corrupted (according to google chrome). Anyways, I’m looking for an answer as to why they crash when I attempt to right click or blue screen… Specs: OS - Windows XP CPU - Athlon 1600+ RAM - 1Gb DDR GPU - Radeon 9000 128Mb HDD - 2 40Gb IDE Hard drives

Had a very similar problem a few weeks back. It was caused by an incomplete removal of some files in the registry. You want to first start of with a virus check, a malware check and a spyware check. If that all checks out okay, it is time to check your registry for errors. I use CCleaner for mine, but I would think that most of them would work. Once you have your registry cleared of all those nasty little errors :-) you might want to give it a try again. Also see if it only does it on certain icons. That would be your biggest offender and try to uninstall those programs completely. Other than that, you might be looking at either an XP repair or a new clean install. Good luck

to repair your registry as administrator run sfc /scannow in the command prompt
